Q&A CEUs and Webinars

I've been listening to the Webinars and am wondering if there is any reason I would want to print out the certificates showing I attended and received a passing score? This is only for an employer I assume, and I don't even have one yet. Is this something that only employers require to keep their coders up to date on their ongoing education?

Printing off each exam score it not necessary. We give you a letter of completion which tells anyone who wants to know that you passed the course. This would carry the most weight.

If one is certified and needs the CEUs then at least keep a copy of the CEU certificate, either as an image or a print copy. You will need to submit them if you are audited, which happens to some percentage of the coders. I think it is random who gets audited. I put the images into a Word doc, so I am ready and then it won't be such an annoyance to be audited. It's not the employer who needs to see it, but AAPC.

Thank you, Alicia and Ruth. I have been taking the Blitz and webinars in prep for my CPC exam. I also have my CCA certification, but I have not started working in the field yet. In addition, I have my AA degree in a billing and coding program. I took a short, 10-question quiz, after one of your webinars, where I was given a score and option to print the certificate. No other courses through CCO. I'm also a member of AAPC and AHIMA.

You only need to keep CEU certificates in case your audited by the organization that certifies you. I scan them in and keep them in a CEU folder by year.

I agree with Alicia, Ruth, and Laureen. Keep all your CEU certificates. You never know if you are going to be audited when you submit your CEUs to your certifying organization. When I submitted mine last year to AAPC, I got a notification both online and in the mail that I was going to be audited. I like Laureen's idea of scanning your CEUs and keeping them in the folder on the computer by the year. It does help when you are being audited. That way all you need to do is insert them in the email message and send them to your certifying organization. You only submit the CEUs that you did not do through the certifying organization.

Thank you, Carolyn. I will keep any certificates that I get. It can't hurt anyway. Great idea that you both suggested about keeping them in a folder on the computer. Quick and easy access.
